Teaching Writing

The reasons for teaching writing to students of English as a foreign language include reinforcement, language development, learning style and ,most importantly, writing as a skill on its own right ( Harmer, 1998 )

1. Reinforcement: some students acquire a language in a purely oral way, but others benefit greatly from  seeing    the language written down. The visual demonstration of language construction is invaluable for both their understanding of how it all fits together and as an aid to committing the new language to memory. Students often find it is useful to write sentences using new language shortly after they have studied it. In other words, writing reinforces the grammatical structures, idioms and vocabulary that students have learned.

2.
How do you develop your knowledge of English and keep up to date?

It is important we develop our knowledge of English and keep up to date with new methods, vocabulary and ideas.
Here are some ideas:
  • read a lot
  • listen to English program in a radio, such as Kang Guru radio
  • watch film and video clip
  • speak English with native speakers
  • take course
  • use a good course book
  • use a good grammar book and dictionary
  • listen to music
  • use free Kang guru materials on the Kang Guru website
 Do you have any suggestions?
